Chekhov play ‘The Proposal’ to go on stage in Iran

The English version of Anton Chekhov’s play ‘The proposal’ is to go on stage in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.

Directed by Shahin Ramezani, Anton Chekhov’s ‘The Proposal’ is slated to go on stage from January 26, 2019 in Iran.

Supervised by Dramatic Arts Center, the play will be performed in English for 15 nights. Farnaz Khoshniat, Saman Kashfipour, and Aref Ghadimi are members of the cast for the play.

‘The Proposal’ which is sometimes called ‘A Marriage Proposal’ is a one-act play written in 1888-1889. Chekhov's play was first performed in 1890.

The play makes us think about relationships while revealing the dynamics that form our choices. It depicts three characters at the height of their egotism and stubbornness. The play is about Ivan Vassiliyitch Lomov, a long-time neighbor of Stepan Stepanovitch Chubukov, who has come to propose marriage to Chubukov's 25-year-old daughter, Natalia.
